Mumtaz has focused on savory cooking with a flair for complex spices. Her tastes are anything but bland. It would be unusual for her to visit a restaurant and not request hot sauce. Her love of richly aromatic foods blossomed while growing up in Karachi where saffron, coriander, and cumin lined the streets in burlap sacks in the spice market, and the food was vibrant in color and flavor. She has long enjoyed cooking meals for family and friends and sharing comfort through a warm dish of dal or a slice of pizza margherita.
Laura grew up loving to visit the small hometown bakery that served scalloped-edged sugar cookies with yellow royal icing. Baking has been her passion ever since she first poured vanilla extract into a mixing bowl. She loved to bring pound cakes and pies to work to share with her colleagues, and the holidays meant homemade candy and cookie gift-giving. Through the years she has taken to creating her own recipes and loves using the freshest, best ingredients including eggs from her own hens.

Is an award-winning creative director working in branding, digital marketing, and focusing on book cover design. She is Senior Art Director at HarperCollins Publishers, in charge of the lifestyle imprint Harvest Books. A native of Karachi, Pakistan, Mumtaz currently lives and works in Brooklyn.

Is senior art director for Revell Books and a freelance graphic designer and photographer. Previously she worked as art director at Hyperion Books and at HarperCollins Publishers in New York City. She is the co-author and photographer of Christmas Baking and lives in Michigan with her family and a menagerie of dogs, cats, chickens, and ducks.
